Nathaniel is 8 years old and was born with Down syndrome; he also has complex medical needs such as a Tracheostmy tube for breathing, a G-tube for feeding as well as Neurofibromatosis1.
In January 2006 he was granted his wish to go to Disney World to meet all of his Disney character friends. We left our home in Calgary on August 19 & flew to Montreal where we stayed over night. The next day we flew into Orlando, Florida where he had the time of his life.
His first experience was getting on an air plane. He was so excited to see one that he couldn’t wait to get on. We weren’t sure how he would be on the plane as he had to use oxygen. He showed us that he was a trooper & was very good on all of the flights.
We arrived in Orlando & got all settled in. Our stay was at a place called Give Kids The World. It is a village for wish kids. We were treated so well there and every day was magic for Nathaniel! The week there was planned with Horse riding, swimming, movie night, a birthday party and even a visit from Santa! The next day we were off to Disney World bright and early. Nathaniel met his first friend Buzz Light Year early in the morning; he was so excited to meet him as he watches Toy Story every day. We went on all the rides and he enjoyed himself thoroughly that by 1pm he had fallen asleep.
On our second day to Disney world he met Mickey & Minnie mouse as well as Snow White, goofy & his son Max. Seeing everything there is to see at the park Nathaniel was overwhelmed and tired out quickly again. SeaWorld was a lot of fun as well, especially the Dolphin tank!
Our next stop was at Universal Studio’s. Nathaniel met Thing 1 & Thing 2 from Cat in the Hat; he got their autographs and had his picture taken with them. We went on all the rides and Nathaniel was so excited to be in a place where he only gets to see from his movies.
The week flew by and we headed home with suitcases full of treasures and our hearts full of joy! We have memories that will last a life time! Nathaniel loves sitting and looking at all the pictures from his special trip!
